About this place
Biting into a skewer of aromatic grilled mackerel yields an immediate burst of rich, savory fat. At Gottsuri in Kita-Senju, the signature grilled gin-saba skewer—made with fatty mackerel from the waters off Hachinohe—is the natural first order. Hearty and succulent, it pairs effortlessly with an opening drink.
Hachinohe Mackerel and Offal Skewers Prepared Many Ways
With mackerel as its anchor, the kitchen presents the fish through various preparations beyond grilling: soy-marinated gin-saba sashimi, vinegar-cured shime-saba, smoked fillets, and crisp karaage. Diners can also branch out into grilled offal skewers priced at 150 yen for 1 skewers, covering cuts like kashira, pork heart, and teppou intestine. Smaller bites such as salted sea pineapple and deep-fried Takko garlic keep the drinks flowing. Alongside draft beer and Hoppy, regional sake from Aomori—including Hassen, Denshu, and Momokawa—rounds out the beverage options.
Standing Drinks or a Table for the Evening
The 1st floor features a standing counter ideal for dropping in solo for a quick glass. Upstairs, the 2nd floor provides sit-down table seating, with advance reservations available for those who want to linger with friends over conversation. On Saturdays and Sundays, the doors open from 14:00, making it equally handy for early afternoon drinks.
To finish the visit, popular choices include gin-saba tororo rice, a two-piece serving of pressed mackerel sushi, or chilled Inaniwa udon. Keep in mind that payment is cash only, so check your wallet before stepping through the door.
